The Reset I Never Expected (3) is the fourth episode of The Fantasie of a Stepmother manhwa.
Summary
Still trying to wrap her head around recent events, Shuri despairs again at the fact that she is the only person who has had to bury her husband twice. A thought comes to her, that perhaps the reason she has returned to past was to see how things changed, but she is mistaken and nothing from the past has changed. She meets with members of the extended family for the funeral. Johannes' younger siblings whisper amongst themselves about how ridiculous it is that Shuri would be the new head of the family - that she was too young and believing that their older brother could not have been sound of mind when he was writing his will.
Ignoring them, Shuri notices her stepchildren crying their hearts out. Jeremy is off to the side, stoically standing alone. She realizes that, even though he has not cried, he is the one most affected by his father's death and that in her past life, she had been too busy dealing with her own problems to notice the children's pain. The oldest of Johannes' younger siblings Mueller von Neuschwanstein tries to belittle her, but Shuri leaves him speechless by giving him permission to leave if he had nothing better to say during his older brother's funeral.
Shuri requests that the priest as well as the rest of the family allow her to say goodbye to her husband privately, and she is then left alone with Johannes' casket. She greets him first, before admitting that she cannot believe she is back in the past, still thinking it could all still be a dream. She tells him that his children grew up well and that he might not believe she really kept her promise and that the children were quite cold to her. Silently, she reflects on herself and realizes that, in truth, she was the one who steadfastly did all that she could to accomplish her goal, without ever considering the people around her.
She cries and confesses she does not have the courage to do everything all over again. She then bids him goodbye, praying it would be the last time. Shuri runs into Jeremy and they are both frozen at first, before he notices her tears and hands her his handkerchief, saying it was inelegant to use her sleeve. After the funeral, Shuri ponders on the events she had just experienced that had not happened in the past. She realizes that an opportunity to right her wrongs had fallen unto her lap. Still confused about why exactly she had received such a chance, seeing as how she had never resented Johannes nor his children, she resolves do her best in her second life.
